Replacing the Aria crossover in Tata’s line-up, Hexa has ventured into the hot segment with a starting price of Rs. 11.99 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The Hexa is going to take on the rivals Mahindra XUV500 and Toyota Innova Crysta. With most of the right boxes ticked, Hexa has the potential to be the flag bearer in Tata’s clan. Tata Motors has paid attention to every detail by getting the right mix of features and engine set up capable of returning stellar performance. That said it shares mechanicals with Safari Storme and gets the same 2.2 litre VARICOR oil burner putting out 156bhp. Power is transmitted by a six-speed auto or manual unit directing power to rear wheels and the all-wheel drivetrain is available on the XMA and XTA variants.
Tata Hexa Exterior
Dimensionally, it measures 4788mm long, 1903mm wide and 1791mm high. The front profile is designed assertively sporting mesh radiator grille, smoked projector head lamps, LED DRLS, dual tone front bumper and a giant hood. Side panels get ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and sporty 19 inch alloy wheels. Rear end is equipped with body painted roof rails atop, body coloured rear spoiler and dual tail pipes.

Designed in tandem with Tata’s signature styling, it takes styling inspiration from Aria sporting similar dashboard and door panels. The top-end trim, XT, gets side and curtain airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control and hill-decent & hill-hold controls. It also benefits from the integrated Harman sourced touch-screen infotainment system with USB port, Aux-In, Bluetooth connectivity, SD card connectivity etc. Space on offer is commendable as there is enough room for passengers across rows.

Tata Hexa sources power from the same 2.2 litre, four cylinder VARICOR oil burner that does duty on the VARICOR 400 variant of Safari Storme. Tata Motors has introduced their crossover or SUV model in 2016 and named it as Tata Hexa. At a first glance, one may think Hexa as a facelift model of Aria. But no, it has got new body panels and is, therefore, an all-new car model. The model has got an impact design with an immense sheer stance and road presence. With bold looks, the sedan has got aggressive behaviour and is dominating the Indian market. The available variants of Hexa are XE, XM, XM+, XT, XMA, XTA, and XT 4x4. The colour variants are Arizona Blue, Pearl White, Tungsten Silver, Platinum Silver, and Sky Grey.
Tata Hexa has got a bold and powerful style statement with 17-inch charcoal grey alloy wheels, dual coloured bumper along with Tata Signature Grille and chrome humanity line. The Daytime Running Lights or DRLs are designed in ice cube patterns and are integrated with stylish fog lamps. The front fascia has got smoked projector headlamps that complement the sophisticated look of the model. The rear end is configured with chrome feature line and the brand name Hexa is carved within it. The dynamic floating roof, the horizontal tail lamps with flexible LED technology, and the refined chrome applique connecting the tail lamps make the sedan look stylish and attractive. Finally, the dual-toned rear bumper highlighted with chrome stripe and twin exhaust gives the model a sporty aesthetic look.
The cabin is rich in quality features like ConnectNext infotainment system, and a premium sporty interior. This system offers different speaker configurations. The cabin is designed with soft-touch material, good quality textures and grains. The black leather wraps the dashboard, door panels and the passenger seats. The other cabin features include AC vents for the second and third row, steering mounted audio and phone control, and multi-functional steering wheel. The passengers have their own storage space and charging points. The glass area is really large that allows a quality amount of air and light inside the car. The utility spaces are designed thoughtfully for all the three rows. Sculpted indulgent seats, smart USB charger for fast charging, retractable blinds for the second-row windows, power-adjustable outer rearview mirrors with demisters, cruise control, automatic rain-sensing wipers, flexible seat configuration, and automatic climate control with dual HVAC, are some of the special cabin features.
Tata Hexa has got an advanced next-generation 2.2L VARICOR 400 diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission. The top models deliver a maximum torque of 400 Nm and the highest power of 154 bhp whereas the lower variants offer 148 bhp of max power and 320 Nm of max torque. The mileage of Tata Hexa offered is about 14.5 Kmpl. With a ground clearance of 200mm, bad roads don't affect the driving experience and maintain the same quality of comfort. The 6-speed manual transmission is having super Drive modes that include Auto, Comfort, Dynamic, and Rough roads. Some selectable modes are also made available with the manual shift option that includes Sports and Auto-sensing Race Car Performance. Another attractive feature of the SUV model is the electronically controlled adaptive All Wheel Drive by Borg-Warner along with torque. The 8-way adjustable driver's seat allows a comfortable driving experience.
Tata Hexa consists of six airbags that include a front, side, and curtain airbags. It is having an electronic stability programme which provides perfect roll-over mitigation for monitoring the driving stability and maintaining traction. The stability of Hexa is maintained by optimizing the braking distance with Anti-lock braking system and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. While travelling up-hill the Hill Hold Control gets activated automatically to prevent your vehicle from rolling backwards and Hill Descent Control gets activated to control the vehicle movement on an inclined surface. Reverse Parking System is enabled with Reverse guiding system, a rearview camera, ultrasonic sensors, and visual display on the infotainment screen. The headlamps automatically glow on sensing exterior conditions.
