The 5-Door Mahindra Thar has been one the most anticipated launches from the home-grown automaker. The 5-Door Thar will be built on the same ladder-on-frame platform as the 3-door version of the SUV, and is expected to offer more cabin space, catering to a wider segment of buyers. The design language will more or less remain similar, however we expect to see new styling elements, borrowed from the all-electric Thar.e Concept.
The new 5-door Mahindra Thar will be offered with a host of smart features and creature comforts. These will include – LED headlamps, new alloy wheels, and LED taillamps. The SUV is also expected to get a fixed roof option, while retaining the tail-gate-mounted spare wheel.
The cabin is also expected to retain the styling of the existing Thar, however, here too you will get to see a bunch of changed in terms of features and colour palette. The set of rear doors will offer better access to the second row, and there will be more boot space on offer as well.
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will also likely pack more features than the standard SUV. Engine options are likely to be the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel, paired with manual and automatic gearbox options. Mahindra is likely to offer 4x4 as standard on the Thar 5-door but we need to see if the lower variants will get a rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant, much like the Thar 3-door.
As for its name, the upcoming SUV is now associated with seven potential names, one of which is the resurrected Armada. Some of the names Mahindra has trademarked include - Thar Armada, Thar Savannah, Thar Gladius, Thar Cult, Thar Rex, Thar Roxx, and Thar Centurion for the 5-door SUV. Among these, Armada holds reminiscence value, while the rest are acquainted with entirely new identities.
