- The 2017 Hyundai Verna is based on the new K2 platform
- The new Verna will come with a choice of 1.6-litre petrol & diesel motors
- Deliveries for the new generation Verna will commence by end of August
Heating up the C-segment all over again, Hyundai Motor India has launched the all-new 2017 Hyundai Verna in the country with prices start at Rs. 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol version. While the prices do look competitive going up to Rs. 12.61 lakh for the range topping diesel automatic, do note that they are introductory and limited to just the first 20,000 customers. The new Hyundai Verna aims to reclaim its lost throne from the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Honda City, and gets a bulk of changes as a result. Most prominent is the new styling, while there are a host of segment first features that certainly gives the model an edge over rivals.

The 2017 Hyundai Verna is based on the new K2 platform, while design inspiration comes from the new generation Elantra that made its Indian debut last year. In fact, Hyundai says the Verna is first of the many future models to adopt the new cascading grille that will be standard across the company's line-up.
In terms of equipment, the new generation Verna packs in a host of features including projector lamps, LED DRLS, projector fog lamps and new signature LED taillights. The sedan also packs in a dual-tone cabin with satin grey accents all over. There is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink system and even Park Assist on the new Verna. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit will offer access to the complete system. Furthermore, the car comes with an intelligent trunk detector that automatically opens the boot-lid, while there is also cruise control and electric sunroof on the top trims.
With respect to engine options, Hyundai India will be offering the all-new Verna with the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel powertrains while transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual and automatic. The 1.6 petrol makes 121 bhp and 151 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.6 diesel churns out 126 bhp and peak torque of 260 Nm. You get six variants across two engine options.
