Electric vehicles are the future of sustainable transportation. Even though the EV industry faced a set-back due to the pandemic, people are showing interest towards them. If you want a fast, efficient and eco-friendly car, an electric car can be the right option for you. EVs are usually faster and can touch the speed from 0-100 kmph quicker than gas vehicles. This difference arises due to the lack of transmission in an electric car. Here are some more features that make EVs faster than their gas-powered counterparts.
Difference between ‘fast' and ‘quick'

EVs are considered to be the quicker option as they have smoother pickup, and generally the better 0-100 times. EVs accelerate faster than gas-powered vehicles and have enough speed for everyday city usage. This is because the EV engines are simpler in design compared to the gas engines. Take for instance the Nexon EV which is the fastest selling electric car in India. The 0-100 time in that car is 9.58s in sport mode, offering over 240nm of torque which beats most of its core competition by around 2 seconds. However, the top speed is capped at 120 kmph which although is enough for daily usage, but the gas-powered competition can go up to over 170 kmph also. This difference makes the gas-powered car a faster option.

Range and charging infrastructure

Consumers are also sceptical about the range of EVs, the Nexon electric car in sport mode offers a range of around 216 km on a full charge in the city environment and around 201 km on the highway. The charging infrastructure in India is developing and expanding at a very fast rate and DC fast chargers are the most popular choice for charging in the middle of a journey. However, there is still a long way to go until it can give an equal competition to the gas stations.
Efficiency and sustainability

Electric cars are comparatively efficient in both cost of operating and emissions. EVs produce lesser emissions than gas powered cars. The process of manufacturing the parts and batteries is being refined to the maximum level. Electric cars are powered by energy and it is much cheaper to produce than petrol or diesel but it is also important that the energy used comes from a clean source too which is still a work in progress. EVs also don't need as much maintenance and repairs as compared to gas powered vehicles as there are fewer moving parts and everything is streamlined.

Buying an electric car right now is a future proof decision. The heavy-duty batteries used are rated for over 8 years of usage all while saving a ton of money. Electric cars are not just better for you but better for the environment too. These benefits do come with a compromise in terms of top speed, but electric cars can be faster than gas cars in some situations due to their other features.
