Auto Expo 2016: Tata Unveils Kite 5 Sub-Compact Sedan

Tata KITE 5 sub-compact sedan is one of the new models displayed at Expo heading to India this year. Based on the twin, Zica hatchback, Tata KITE 5 (codename) will replace the ageing Indigo eCS. Being the second compact sedan in Tata’s line-up, the new Tata KITE 5 will sit beneath Zest. Dimensionally, KITE 5 measures 3995mm long, 1647mm wide and 1535mm high.
Aimed at the young customers, the sporty compact sedan shares comprehensive design and styling cues with Zica hatchback. Tata Motors have added a few new elements to the sedan such as a new grille up front. Wheelbase gauging 2450mm hints at decent room for passenger inside cabin. Interiors are largely similar to the Zica hatchback featuring same set of fitments as former.

Engine choices include a 1.2 litre, three cylinder Revotron, engine and a 1.05 litre, three cylinder Revotorq diesel motor. The petrol mill is expected to develop top power of 85PS along with peak torque of 114Nm. Tata for now has kept the power figure for diesel engine under the wraps. Both engines are likely to get multiple driving modes. Transmission duties will rely on a conventional five-speed manual gearbox and an automated manual transmission which will be available as optional.

Even though subtle styling changes like a tweaked grille up front can be seen, interiors too are very similar to those found in Zica including the same set of features seen in the hatchback. The compact sedan segment currently offers a string of choices like Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Volkswagen Ameo. As mentioned in the beginning, the new KITE 5 will sit below Zest in the line-up, the former is likely to come with an aggressive price tag.
