BMW X7 Caught On Camera During Cold Weather Testing

- The BMW X7 will be the biggest ever SUV built by the carmaker
- The X7 will be manufactured at the company's Spartanburg plant in the US
- The BMW X7 will receive styling cues from the new-gen BMW 7 Series sedan
BMW X7 the next flagship SUV from the Bavarian carmaker was recently spotted during cold weather testing. Back in November 2016, we shared the first spy images of the BMW X7 prototype with you, and since then not a lot has changed. While the heavy camouflage hides most of its features and styling, the sheer size of BMW's upcoming luxury SUV is evidently seen from these images. The BMW X7 will be the biggest ever SUV built by the German automaker, and it will be manufactured at the company's Spartanburg plant in North America.
BMW X7 Will Be the Carmaker's Largest SUV Yet
Like its fellow German rivals, the upcoming BMW X7 also shares its platform and styling with a sedan counterpart, which of course is the new generation BMW 7 Series. And considering the size and profile of the SUV, it is, in fact, the SUV equivalent of the new 7 Series sedan. The BMW X7 will ride on the CLAR platform and will have seating for 7 people. The heavy camouflage doesn't really tell us much about the exterior styling of the car but the exposed bits reveal a large kidney grille up front flanked by sleek, horizontal headlight. While the lamps used in the prototype are regular halogen units, the production model will come with LED headlamps along with LED daytime running lights.
BMW X7 Front
Similarly, when you see the side profile, the ORVMs also look makeshift and we do hope to see much sleeker ones with integrated turn signal lights. We like the alloys on the prototype but considering the premium nature of the SUV, the production version of the X7 will come with a sportier set of wheels. It appears that the SUV also gets underbody plastic cladding along with long roof rails and a sunroof. Most of the rear is hidden, but the SUV is likely to get wraparound LED taillamps and beefy rear bumper housing the dual exhaust pipes.
BMW X7 Side Profile
The interior is yet to be revealed but we know that the cabin will take cues from the luxurious 7 Series sedan and expect it to be filled to the brim with features. In the engine department, the upcoming BMW X7 is likely to get the same powertrain that does duty on the new generation BMW 7 Series. BMW will offer the inline-six engines of the base trims and probably a V8 to bridge the gap between it and the V12, which will power the top-of-the-line model. This will also make it the first X model to get one.
BMW X7 Rear
The BMW X7 is expected to break cover by early 2018 and will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the Range Rover.
