carandbike Awards 2021: BMW X5 M Crowned Performance SUV Of The Year

BMW X5 M has won the 2021 Performance SUV of the Year trophy. The SUV was launched in the country last year in November. The SUV comes to our market as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) like all M models. In this edition of the carandbike Awards, the BMW X5 M had to compete with a range of performance-oriented SUVs like – Audi RSQ8, BMW X3 M and the Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG 53 Coupe.

The BMW X5 M Competition can clock 100 kmph from a standstill position in just 3.8 seconds.
Under the hood, the X5 M gets a 4.4-litre Twin-turbo V8 petrol motor that produces 617 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 750 Nm of peak torque between 1,800-5,600 rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. The German carmaker claims that the SUV can clock 100 kmph from a standstill position in just 3.8 seconds. It has a top speed of 250 kmph which is electronically limited. It also comes with launch control, and an Active M Differential for tauter handling coupled with the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
It comes loaded with a wide range of safety features which include front, side and head airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with M Dynamic Mode, Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control, Dry Braking function, collision and pedestrian warning with City Braking function, lane control and lane-keeping assistant with active side collision protection, lane change assistant, cross-traffic alert systems and more. In India, the SUV comes with a single variant – Competition. It is priced in India at Rs. 1.94 crore (ex-showroom).
