Carbon Wrapped Motor Could Make The Tesla Roadster Faster Than Originally Planned

- Tesla could unlock even more performance with the new Carbon Motor
- The motor unlocks more RPMs and torque which will make the car faster
- The Roadster was supposed to be fastest car when unveiled in 2017
One of the biggest things that Elon Musk revealed at the launch of the new Tesla Model S Plaid edition was a new carbon wrapped motor which is smaller than its older motors but is still faster in delivering the RPMs and giving overall better performance. Now, this motor could also make its way to the Roadster which has been in development for the last couple of years which may even offset the need to have a tri-motor setup. Elon Musk revealed that there are plans to use this motor in the Roadster and will be tuned in such a way that it delivers more torque and RPM on the new Roadster.
"The Plaid carbon-wrapped motor is arguably the most advanced motor on Earth outside of maybe a lab somewhere. We have to keep some secrets! We have a few ideas for increasing torque & max rpm even further for new Roadster. Definitely fun & exciting engineering ahead," revealed Musk.
In fact, it seems like Tesla hasn't fully dialled in this new motor.

The Roadster will be the successor to the first car Tesla made which put it on the path to become a giant
"Main advantage of this is a much stronger EM field compared with a rotor that is held together by metal (usually high strength steel). Other advantage is that rotor can go to higher RPM, as carbon sleeve (mostly) stops copper rotor from expanding due to radial acceleration. Fiber is wound over rotor at high tension load. Machine to do this was made by Tesla Automation. Carbon sleeve must put copper rotor in compression or it loosens at low temp due to differential thermal expansion. Preload is also helpful for maintaining precise gap to stator," Musk explained.
Tesla delayed the Roadster to 2022 but the engineering work concluded this year and the release candidate should be available this year. Tesla had shared some mind-boggling figures when it first unveiled the car including the haloed 0-100 kmph in less than 2 seconds and 1000 km range. Now the Tesla Model S Plaid already smashes the 0-100 kmph mark in less than 2 seconds apart from many other hypercars including the Rimac Nevera, but Tesla could have more up its sleeve thanks to this new motor.
