Dhirubhai Ambanis Beloved Car: A Heartwarming Story

The billionaire Ambani family has innumerable luxury cars at their disposal, owning one of the costliest garages in the entire country. Their Antilia mansion reportedly houses close to 170 vehicles with an in-house service station. They have literally everything from luxury sedans, SUVs, supercars, EVs, and more. Of course, Mukesh Ambani inherited his passion for luxury cars from his father and business icon Dhirubhai Ambani. He started building this awe-inspiring Ambani family garage over several years.
However, in spite of owning several luxury models in his lifetime, Dhirubhai Ambani was partial to a very special car, namely the BMW E38 750i XL L7. The vehicle is extra long and it was spotted in an immaculately restored avatar on Mumbai roads sometime earlier. The luxury sedan was followed by the Z Plus Security convoy of cars for Mukesh Ambani, indicating that either Mr. Ambani himself or his family members were using it that day.
The car is doubly special, since just 899 units were built throughout the world, making it a rare version indeed. This is perhaps the sole BMW E38 750i XL L7 in the country as well. The XL moniker refers to the long wheelbase, with overall length reportedly standing at 5.37 metres. The feature list was impressive back then including electrically adjustable seats at the back, fold-down trays at the back, rear footrests, fridge, personal rear display units, a fax machine, and a television screen as well. There was an optional privacy window partition crafted from glass, enabling passengers to isolate the rear completely. The car had a V12 5.4 litre petrol engine making 322 BHP and 490 Nm.
Apart from this special vehicle, Dhirubhai Ambani also owned many other luxury cars including the Cadillac Fleetwood, which the family still owns. At a recent rally of vintage cars in Mumbai, Anant and Akash Ambani drove a charming red Cadillac. This dates back to the early 1940s and only four such units are present today in India. However, this car was not a part of their personal collection, although the Ambani family owns several classic and vintage models.
