F1: Fernando Alonso Will Not Help Verstappen In Title Fight Against Hamilton

- Alonso has said in the past that he was rooting for Verstappen
- The 40-year old spaniard battled Hamilton as his teammate in 2007
- Alonso is the only teammate Hamilton hasnt outscored in his career
Fernando Alonso has revealed that he will not be particularly coming to Max Verstappen's help in enabling him to defeat Lewis Hamilton. Alonso and Hamilton have a history as they dueled with each other in 2007 when they were teammates at McLaren. His comments came after Red Bull's Helmut Marko claimed that Alonso could come into Verstappen's aid because he didn't like Hamilton as witnessed by the duel between the two iconic drivers at the Hungarian GP.
"I read that, but I always run my own race. In Hungary, yes, we managed to fight Hamilton. But that was mainly due to the track. Mercedes and Red Bull are normally much too fast," said Alonso claiming that the Mercedes car alone is too fast right now for him to have any kind of intervention.
"Look at Monza, when Bottas started last and still finished on the podium. So of course, I like to fight with good drivers, but I think Red Bull really has to do it themselves this season," Alonso cited the race pace of both Mercedes and Red Bull.

Max Verstappen came P2 in the Turkish GP though was more than 10 seconds off the pace
His comments come after Mark Webber indicated that Red Bull may not anymore have the fastest car on the grid as witnessed by the 13-second gap Valtteri Bottas was able to claim over Verstappen in Turkey. This would mark two races on the trot when a Mercedes has won the race.
It has been indicated ever since Pirelli introduced stiffer sidewalls on its tyres that Mercedes has been able to improve its race pace. Red Bull and Ferrari also complained to the FIA about the engine update Mercedes has brought in, that claim was rejected.
Even Red Bull boss Christian Horner was surprised at the straight-line speed of the Mercedes despite running a lot of wing which adds downforce and makes the car aerodynamically efficient over corners while sacrificing straight-line speed. In the past, Alonso has said that he wanted Verstappen to win the world championship.
