The FP3 session of the United States Grand Prix belonged to Lewis Hamilton as he set the fastest time of 1:37.107 as team-mate Nico Rosberg struggled with braking issues. Hamilton was almost 0.9s faster than Rosberg on soft tyres.

Rosberg hit trouble in the middle of the session due to a glazed brake disc which was causing him to run wide on a number of occasions. Williams was the second fastest team on the track with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas by finishing third and fourth respectively. Fernando Alonso was fifth fastest, while Daniel Ricciardo was sixth for Red Bull.

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg was seventh fastest ahead of Adrian Sutil while Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button rounded out the top ten. Jean-Eric Vergne suffered power unit issues and completed just 12 laps, finishing in 17th. Once again it was Sebastian Vettel who finished the session slowest overall as he continued to focus on race pace with a power unit penalty forcing him to start from the pit lane.
