F1: Silverstone To Be Exempt From COVID-19 Restrictions For 2021 British GP

- The race in Silverstone could have been in jeopardy
- The COVID19 restrictions have been postponed to July 19
- Luckily, sporting events are being given exemptions in the UK
The British GP returns this year with an extra twist of the sprint race which has everyone excited especially after the mayhem in the last two laps of the Azerbaijan GP. The race was restarted after it was red-flagged because of Max Verstappen's crash. Things could've come up a cropper for the highly anticipated weekend in the UK as COVID19 restrictions were supposed to lift on June 21, but they were further extended till July 19. Luckily for the British GP, it is exempt from these restrictions.
"Wimbledon to be included in Government's Events Research Programme, set to have 50% ground capacity at the start, increasing during Championships up to full-on Centre Court for men's and women's finals. And as reported last week, 50% capacity for Wembley's last four Euros matches. Understood discussions ongoing re large crowds for other sports events like the Grand Prix at Silverstone and The Open," tweets Laura Scott who is a senior sports reporter for the BBC.

It is said that both Wimbledon and the race at Silverstone are going to be included in the government's events research programme which has to have 50 per cent ground capacity at the start. In the case of Wimbledon, the capacity will increase during the two week period of the championship up to full capacity on the days of the women's and men's finals at the centre court. Wembley Stadium hosted its last four Euro 2021 matches at 50 per cent capacity as well. For the race discussions are ongoing that could allow larger crowds.

The British GP is one of the staples of the F1 calendar
In 2020, Silverstone hosted a doubleheader behind closed doors. The 2021 race will feature a new format as well which includes the sprint race on Saturday that will decide the formation grid for Sunday. The UK has generally accommodated fans across stadiums in EPL, Premiership Rugby, Euro qualifiers, cricket matches featuring England and New Zealand and also has granted permission to crowds in Southampton for the world test championship final between India and New Zealand which also starts on June 19.
