FBI fears Google's Driverless Cars May Be Used For Sinister Purposes

The future of transportation is here and Google is first the one to bring it to the table. Many, including, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz, have also promised the same tech, and it fills us with hope about the future of driverless cars. However, FBI would disagree. The Guardian newspaper in U.K. obtained an unclassified report from the FBI that deliberates likely vile uses of driverless cars.

FBI warns that these cars could allow getaway vehicles to escape crime scenes while criminals engage in tasks 'that require the use of both hands or taking one's eyes off the road', a feat that was previously impossible. Imagine a high-speed chase where a criminal engages a system to automatically navigate the car while he takes his hands off the steering, thus giving him the chance to shoot at police. The other possibility that the agency dreamed up about was that the car could be easily turned into a weapon. One could hack and load the car with a bomb, and send it to the target without anyone inside.

That said, FBI thinks driverless cars are a double-edged sword. The report believes autonomous cars could make surveillance easier, and allow vehicles to be tailed from a distance, among other things. But let's not forget that we are still a few years away from these cars being able to perform even half of the functions that the FBI is worried about.
