Five-Door Variant Of Suzuki Jimny Spotted Testing In Europe

The Suzuki Jimny has been a hotly anticipated cars in the recent past and it is no secret that the three-door Jimny is manufactured in India by Suzuki only for various export markets. India is yet to get any version of the Jimny, despite Maruti having flirted with the idea of launching the SUV in India for years now. In fact, the Jimny was on display at the 2020 Auto Expo as well. Now, a left-hand drive 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny has been spotted testing in Europe, and the same model is likely to come to India in the next year or so.
To make it a 5-door than the usual 3-door Suzuki could extend the current 2250 mm by around 300 mm. With the longer wheelbase, there will be more legroom for the rear passengers. The SUV showed promising performance in the European market, it is expected to carry the legacy of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
The 3-door Jimny for export markets is powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder K-series engine, producing 104 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm of torque. This is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an option of a 4-speed torque converter automatic. Rumors say there might be a chance of getting the diesel engine back, while this is highly unlikely to happen as Maruti Suzuki has no Diesel engine on offer in India anymore. Reports suggest Maruti Suzuki could also offer a turbo petrol unit.
While the launch is expected by mid-2023, the Suzuki Jimny will come with 3-door and followed with the 5-door option, it will compete with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. When launched in India, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny will be launched in India with prices going above Rs. 13 lakh or so.
