Ford Mustang Mach-E Production Delayed Because Of Global Semiconductor Shortage

- The Mustang Mach-E was Ford's first EV and has been received well
- The Mach-E is now delayed by up to 6 weeks in the US
- Ford is compensating buyers with extra 250 kWh of free charging
Bit by bit, all the dominoes in the global auto industry are falling crippled by the global semiconductor crisis brought upon by the combination of COVID19, a massive surge in demand for consumer electronics owning to the world from home phenomenon and geopolitical tensions between the US and China. Ford is the latest victim of the shortage of automotive chips which both the CEOs of TSMC and Intel have claimed would rebound by the next quarter of the year. Ford is facing issues about the supply of parts for its latest EV - the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Ford estimates orders for the Mach-E which were scheduled to be delivered by early July would be delayed till October amounting to a minimum 6-week delay. To appease Mach-E owners, Ford is offering an additional 250 kWh of complimentary charging worth $75 on top of the standard 250 kWh totalling 500 kWh.

The Mustang Mach-E will be available in the GT variant too
Ford sent this mail to a buyer who had booked the car:
Dear Future Mustang Mach-E Owner,
The global semiconductor chip shortages are affecting our ability to keep up with demand. While that's no excuse, it is a reality.
We'd like you to know that while we're working nonstop to deliver your very own Mustang Mach-E vehicle, we project your vehicle delivery will be delayed by a minimum of six weeks. Once your vehicle receives the required chip, your vehicle status will be updated, and you'll receive an email with an estimated week of delivery.
In appreciation of your patience and loyalty, we're offering you an additional 250kWh of complimentary charging on the Ford Blue Oval™ Charge Network.*
Your Ford Mustang Mach-E Team
