- The spring in the door latch would break causing the door to open
- The recently launched Mustang in India remains unaffected by the recall
Ford has issued a voluntary safety recall in North America affecting over 8.30 lakh vehicles over the possibility of the doors being unlatched. The recall affects a host of Ford vehicles including the 2015 Mustang, 2013-15 Ford C-MAX, 2013-15 Ford Escape, 2012-15 Ford Focus, 2015 Lincoln MKC, and 2014-16 Ford Transit Connect vehicles. A regional recall, the exercise is being carried in certain states of the US along with Mexico sold or ever registered in certain states to replace side door latches.
Ford states that the pawl spring tab in the side door latch could break on the affected vehicles. This condition in typical situations will prevent the door from latching. In certain situations where the door is able to be closed, the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury. The company reported one accident and injury due to the problem as well. The affected states in the US include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Oregon and Washington.
To fix the issue, Ford dealers will replace the door latches on the affected models. Furthermore, the automaker will also start a customer satisfaction campaign that allows owners out of the affected states to get a one-time latch replacement on their vehicle in case the component breaks, irrespective if it is part of the recall or no.
While deliveries of the Ford Mustang have commenced in India, the model sold here remains unaffected by this recall which is of 2016 make. Launched in India last month, the India-spec Mustang comes in the range-topping 5.0-litre V8 trim albeit with power detuned to 395bhp and 515Nm of torque. The motor comes paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. You continue to get multiple driving modes, rear wheel drive power and a growling exhaust note, all of which we experienced when we drove the coupe at BIC.
