Italian scooter maker Vespa is part of the Piaggio Group that has some high octane motorcycle brands like Moto Guzzi and Aprilia among others under its umbrella. While the motorcycles have defined performance for the parent company, Vespa has been all about bringing retro and quirky scooters to showrooms with Italian flair in plenty. However, custom bike designer Marek Nachlik from Hamburg, Germany has brought in a twist to this humble Italian scooter with this one off 55hp version.

The Vespa power scooter is named 'Ten inch Terror'

Based on a vintage Vespa, Marek Nachlik calls it the 'Ten inch Terror', and is named after the engine. The German builder has swapped the stock motor with a WR360 engine sourced from Husqvarna coated with Dutch Powerseal. The 360cc powertrain is tilted 45 degrees forward in order to give the scooter better weight distribution and better handling. The motor has been tuned to produce 55hp of power and 45Nm of torque. Pair this to the kerb weight 145 kg and the Terror nameplate feels perfectly apt.

The Vespa Ten inch Terror uses a Husqvarna sourced 360cc engine

The rear wheel comes from a Honda Comstar, while the hanging on a Yamaha XS400 swingarm. Rear braking components have been sourced from the Honda CB750. Furthermore, the power scooter uses a custom made front disc brake, while a Buell like rear shock absorber handles suspension duties. Nachlik has also used a radiator mounted just after the front wheel. Clearly, not the best location.

With so much power to offer, the scooter gets reinforced 10 cm steel ribs to prevent the frame from bending. The glove box has been transformed into the fuel tank and a Hardi electric fuel pump sends fuel to the engine. The exhaust is all custom made and has been done up by Markus Rentzmann of Pipe Design, Bremen.

The Ten inch Terror clearly brings some manic performance levels to the Vespa scooter, while looking stellar in the vintage blue shade. The cafe-race styled single seat adds to the package. Now, it will be interesting to see if Nachlik will take it to the track or drag strip to set some records. We will be looking forward to that.
