Here Is How You Should Take Care Of A CNG Car

CNG-powered vehicles have slowly made their way into the hearts of the Indian masses. Their popularity has exponentially increased over the last few years, primarily because they have very low operational costs and are very eco-friendly. On the maintenance side, however, these vehicles require more care as compared to fuel-powered vehicles. If you own CNG-powered vehicles, here are a few ways in which you can take better care of your car.

- SWITCH TO AUTOMATIC-FUEL MODE
Once you turn on the automatic fuel mode in your car, the car begins operating in petrol mode. When the temperature reaches a certain mark, the CNG mode comes into play. This mode is very beneficial for the car's engine because the fuel facilitates lubricating it effectively.
- PARK YOUR VEHICLE IN THE SHADE
CNG vehicles feature gas that evaporates quicker as compared to petrol-based vehicles. This is the reason why it is always advised to park your CNG vehicle in the shade. Doing so also ensures that your cabin space does not get extra heated as a result of receiving direct sun rays. This is a very basic and simple maintenance step that everyone should follow.
- CHECK SPARK PLUGS FREQUENTLY
The spark plugs fitted in CNG-based vehicles are very different from the ones featured in other cars. This is because the gap present between the vehicle's spark source and its metallic tip is very short in the case of a CNG spark plug. Therefore, ensure that you keep replacing your vehicle's spark plug once every 10,000 kilometres.
- KEEP CLEANING AND REPLACING THE AIR FILTERS
After a while, the car's air filter accumulates lots of dust and debris, which is why it is important to clean them or if the need arises, replace them. A dirty air filter leads to hampering the vehicle's fuel economy, which in the long run, proves to be quite expensive. According to experts, it is recommended that you change your vehicle's filters after every 5000-kilometer mark.
- GET YOUR CNG CYLINDER CHECKED OUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE
It is not advised to keep driving the car on CNG mode for too long because doing so reduces the pressure built up on the cylinder and increases the risk of the valves exploding. To avoid this, ensure that both the car's engine, as well as the fuel tank, gets its fair supply of petrol. Moreover, make sure that you get the vehicle's valves changed frequently as they get worn out over time.

CNG vehicles, if maintained and taken care of properly, can last for a long time. Therefore, if you own a CNG-based vehicle, follow the aforementioned tips to ensure your car remains fit and functional for a good amount of time.
