India Bike Week 2017: BMW R Nine T Racer To Be Unveiled

- BMW R Nine T Racer is a cafe racer in the R Nine T range
- The R Nine T Racer will be the latest addition to BMW's heritage line-up
- The R Nine T will be priced below the Rs. 18 lakh BMW R Nine T
The BMW R Nine T Racer is a new model in BMW Motorrad's modern classic range, which currently offers the BMW R Nine T and BMW R Nine T Scrambler in India. In essence, the R Nine T Racer is a café racer design, complete with a half-fairing and rear cowl. The R Nine T Racer may share the same platform with the regular BMW R Nine T, but it's actually a stripped down version of the R Nine T. The Racer loses some of the high-end parts; the aluminium fuel tank is swapped for a steel one, and conventional telescopic forks replace the original upside down forks. The brakes are also regular four-pot calipers instead of the radially mounted Monobloc calipers on the R Nine T.

The R Nine T Racer gets a pair of retro-styled analogue clocks
The café racer design is evident from the first look, with the frame mounted half-fairing, seat hump and rear set footpegs. Adding to the old world charm is the vintage BMW Motosport paint scheme. Yet, the R Nine T Racer has all the components of a modern-day motorcycle, including BMW's Automatic Stability Control and anti-lock brakes. Nevertheless, the BMW R Nine T Racer will be priced below the R Nine T's over Rs. 18 lakh price tag.

The R Nine T Racer will be more of a style-oriented bike in the Motorrad line-up

The engine is shared with the BMW R Nine T - the same 1,170 cc boxer engine which makes a claimed 110 bhp and 116 Nm of peak torque. What the BMW R Nine T Racer's USP is the retro-cool design, the single round headlight with the retro half fairing, round analogue dials and the classic BMW Motosport colour scheme suits the modern classic theme completely. It certainly harks to the latest fad called the 'factory custom' and the R Nine T Racer certainly looks set to grab a few eyeballs at the India Bike Week 2017.
