BMW G 310 R, G 310 GS Contribute Over 75 Per Cent To BMW Motorrad Sales In 2018

Completing its first full year of operations in India, BMW Motorrad sold a total of 2187 units in the country between January and December 2018. While the Bavarian manufacturer has been retailing its range of premium motorcycles in the country for a while now, 2018 saw the company introduce its entry-level BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS bikes in India, which have contributed over 75 per cent of the total sales for the previous calendar year. This equates to about 1640 units of the G 310 twins being sold last year.
The BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS both have been highly awaited offerings and were introduced at a rather premium price. The bikes were launched in July last year, and have brought appreciable business for its company. More so, since the last months of 2018 saw massive discounts on both offerings up to Rs. 70,000. The made in India bikes are already being exported overseas since 2016.
BMW Motorrad India further revealed that the BMW S 1000 RR, BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 GSA were a favourite among motorcycle enthusiasts. For 2019, BMW is likely to bring a host of its new and updated motorcycles in the country. This will include the 2019 S 1000 RR showcased at EICMA 2018, among other performance offerings.
The BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS are built by TVS in a collaboration with the German auto giant and sold globally. The bikes use a 313 cc single-cylinder engine tuned for 34 bhp and 28 Nm of peak torque while paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The G 310 motorcycles have been appreciated for their easy ride-ability and impeccable build quality, while the price has been under scrutiny. While the G 310 R has an asking price of Rs. 2.99 lakh, the G 310 GS gets a sticker price of Rs. 3.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
