Indian Scout Range Recalled In the US

- Potential ABS issue on certain Indian Scout bikes
- The fault could be with the braking system in certain Scout models
- The recall is currently being issued only in the US
Indian Motorcycle has issued a recall for models in the Indian Scout range in the US for a potential flaw in the anti-lock braking system (ABS). The affected models will be in the 2017 to 2019 Indian Scout, Indian Scout Bobber and Indian Scout Sixty motorcycles, and the recall is apparently over the possibility of the ABS which may not have been filled with fluids to the correct standard. There is a possibility of air remaining in the ABS brake system, which could lead to the degradation of brake performance over time. According to the National Highways Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 2,000 motorcycles may be affected by the recall.

The potential fault could be an issue with certain bikes of the entire Indian Scout Range
The Indian Scout line-up includes the Scout, Scout Bobber and the Scout Sixty, and all these motorcycle models are affected by the recall, but all such models manufactured during 2016-2019 may not be affected by the recall. To rectify the problem, Indian Motorcycle will bleed the brakes of the affected bikes and refill it with the level of fluids required. The recall states that only certain motorcycles are likely to be affected, though the problem can be felt with the brake lever feeling spongy and soft.
The entire Indian Scout range is also sold in India, but so far there's been no word on any of the bikes sold in India to be affected by the same problem. In any case, an issue with faulty, or not very effective brakes should not be taken lightly, and it would be prudent for Indian Scout owners in India to reach out to the nearest service centre or dealership to get the brakes of their bikes checked.
