Koenigsegg Readies One:1 For Nurburgring Lap Record

Koenigsegg is hoping to set a new Nurburgring street-legal track record with its One:1 supercar. We first saw a glimpse of the Koenigsegg One:1 at the Geneva Motor Show and it was quite the looker. But as the numbers tumbled out of the closet, we began to worry if we could catch a glimpse of it if it were on the track.
The One:1 boasts of one horsepower per kilogram and all this power is provided by its twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V8 which produces 1341bhp and develops a massive 1370Nm of torque. Company founder Christian von Koenigsegg suggests that the car's light weight, refined chassis and aerodynamics will likely be more important in raising the bar around the famed racing circuit.

If you look closely, the One:1 has a Le Mans-style top-mounted spoiler. Now this is hydraulically actuated to switch between low-drag, high-downforce and braking mode. There is more, for there is a Venturi flap which deforms beneath the nose to draw more air under the body at high speeds.
However, there are already a few manufacturers who have beaten the clock on the Nurburgring. The Porsche 918 Spyder did a lap around the 20 km circuit in 6 minutes and 57 seconds. Yes, I hear you, when you say that McLaren claims that they've managed to get the P1 do a lap under the 7 minute mark but we don't really know by how much.

But from what is said, Koenigsegg will first bring the Agera R supercar to the track and it is confident of taking the top spot. It will then bring the One:1 to the track to further diminish the chances of anyone else taking the crown away from them. We can't wait to see what happens!
