Land Rover Showcases Transparent Trailer Technology

Essentially developed to eliminate blind spots, the system combines video feeds from the vehicle's surround view camera system with a video feed from a digital wireless camera that is placed on the rear of the trailer or caravan. The videos are then combined to create a see-through image to provide a clear view of what is behind the trailer or caravan.

Jaguar Land Rover Director of Research and Technology Dr Wolfgang Epple said, "Our Transparent Trailer project is researching how we could offer a view out of the vehicle unrestricted by your trailer, no matter what its size or shape. Our prototype system offers a very high quality video image with no distortion of other cars or obstructions. This means the driver would have exactly the right information to make safe and effective decisions when driving or maneuvering, making towing safer and less stressful."

Land Rover also announced a Cargo Sense system which uses a remote video camera mounted inside the trailer and a mat of pressure sensors on the floor to help customers load cargo evenly and uniformly. This technology would also alert drivers if the cargo is moving around the trailer in an unexpected or abnormal way while driving.
The company has been at the forefront of such technology and they've gone in that direction with the sole purpose of easing the pressure on the driver.
