License Test for Two-Wheelers

Learning how to ride a motorcycle or any two-wheeler is one of the many stepping stones to procuring a riding license. If you are 18 years or older, only then will you be eligible to apply for a driving license. However, if the two wheeler you plan to use is less than 50cc or an electric scooter, then 16-18 year olds can also apply for a license.

The first stage in the process is acquiring a leaner´s license. A learner´s license is a temporary license that can be used to learn how to drive before you apply for a permanent license because the latter requires you to undertake a driving test. The test is not a walk in the park, and therefore, while appearing for the test, there are certain points one should keep in mind. Let's take a look at what the test for two-wheeler license requires.

Prerequisites – License Test
If the applicant is not an adult, i.e., less than 18 years, he or she will need to acquire parental consent. Applicants would also need to clear a written examination to proceed further in the quest to get their learner's license. Applicants need to wait for at least one month after the issue of learner's license to apply for a permanent license. People who wish to take the written examination can apply either offline or online by visiting their state's transport department website and filling up the form. They would need to upload scanned copies of certain documents such as their address proof, identity proof, photograph, etc. Once the form is filled up and submitted and the fee is paid, they can appear for their test on the scheduled date. If they pass the test, they will be issued a Learner's license. Please note that learning to ride/drive must necessarily be done with a learner´s license. It is illegal to ride on Indian roads without a license of any kind.

A learner's license is valid for 6 months and applicants have to wait for at least one month after the issue of learner´s license to apply for a permanent one. This involves taking a practical riding test and cannot be done online. Applicant must visit the local RTO as per the time slot allocated to them and take the test under the supervision of a motor-vehicle inspector. The test process varies from state to state. However, applicants generally have to ride the two-wheeler on a track in the pattern of a ´forward 8´ . The test will check the rider's skills, knowledge of signals and indicators, in addition to the fact whether a rider can finish the test without letting their feet touch the ground. If they pass, the applicants will be given their permanent driver's license.

The written test is conducted for applicants of learner´s license. If you clear this test, then you are issued a leaner´s license. Applicants get marked on the test based on their knowledge regarding traffic rules, signals and regulations. The passing mark is 60%.
Points To Consider For The License Test
- Before appearing for the test, make sure to read up on everything related to the test, right from the rules and regulations to the basics of driving.
- On the day of the test, ensure that you reach the exam premises at least half an hour before the test begins.
- Also, it is normal to feel a little bit of nervousness before the test. Ensure that you are in control of your senses by practising breathing in and out and calming yourself down.
- If you know someone who has already passed their test, talk to them and ask them for tips. It could prove to be very useful.
- Be aware of your surroundings and make sure that you wear your helmet while riding.
The test for two-wheelers will not seem difficult if you are prepared well enough. With solid preparation and practice, you can easily ace the test and get your own driver's license.
