Maruti Suzuki India Limited is gearing up to take the wraps off its latest entrant into the compact SUV segment, rivaling the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and the recently revealed Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The new compact SUV, to be revealed to the world on July 20, 2022, will be called Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Jointly developed with Toyota, the new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will share lots of commonalities with the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, as both SUVs will essentially be sibling units. Additionally, the company has also opened the pre-bookings for the new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara at an initial token amount of Rs. 11,000.
The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be spawned by Suzuki's Global-C platform and will come equipped with 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and 1.5-litre strong hybrid powerplant options, as well as share power outputs with the mid-sized SUV. The mild unit would generate 100 bhp and 135 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The other drivetrain is developed with THS (Toyota Hybrid System), and e-drive transmission, and has a standalone output of 91 bhp and 122 Nm of torque assisted by an electric motor that has an output of 79 bhp and 141 Nm of instant torque. Combined, the hybrid engine puts out 113 bhp.
The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be produced alongside the Urban Cruiser Hyryder at Toyota's Bidadi plant in Karnataka and both models, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti's midsize SUV will go on sale around the festive season. According to news reports, just like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be exported to multiple markets, including Africa and Europe.
