Mercedes-Benz C-Class Production Commences In India

- New Mercedes C-class launch on May 10
- Will be available in C 200 petrol, C 220d diesel and C 300d diesel trims
- Bookings currently open for existing Mercedes customers
Mercedes has announced the roll-out of the new C-class luxury sedan from its plant at Chakan, Maharashtra. The new C-class is set to be launched in India on May 10 with bookings currently open for all existing Mercedes customers. The carmaker has said it will commence accepting bookings from new customers from May 1.
Revealed early last year for global markets, the new C-class follows Mercedes' family design language slotting into place between the E-class and Mercedes's smaller sedans such as the A-class Limousine and the CLA (in international markets). The new C is larger than its predecessor with the wheelbase up by 25mm freeing up more space for passengers.

The cabin design meanwhile takes influence from the new S-class with fully loaded models for India expected to get a large 11.9-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Lower variants meanwhile are expected to use a smaller 10.25-inch instrument display and a 9.5-inch touchscreen.
While more details are awaited, Mercedes India's website reveals that the new C-class will notably come with the firm's MBUX system and Mercedes's Digital Headlights. Also, part of the package will be powered front seats with memory function.
As per Mercedes' website, the C-class will get three engine options – the C 200 petrol and the C 220d and C 300d diesel. All three variants are expected to use 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines with the petrol unit also expected to feature mild-hybrid tech. As with its predecessor, both units will be paired with an automatic gearbox as standard.
