Mercedes-Benz Suspends E350d Sales In Germany. Here's Why

- Mercedes-Benz will re-engineer their emission standards
- The issue does not imply to India
- The E350d was launched in Germany in May this year
Luxury car-makers Mercedes-Benz has suspended the sales of the E350d in the country so that they can re-engineer the diesel engine's exhaust gas as part of a recertification process. Launched in May this year, Mercedes-Benz offers saloon and the estate variants of the E350d in the country. The European Union has listed out new guidelines for diesel vehicles so as to control the emissions emitted from the vehicles. This has resulted in various car-makers to re-engineer their emission standards so that it complies with the new regulation.

Up until now, Mercedes-Benz used the AdBlue exhaust gas treatment for the 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged engine. However, OM642 LS powered engine is now reportedly facing issues with high levels of NOx emissions. The company will now adopt a larger SCR catalyst that will help in reducing the NOx emissions from these diesel vehicles. This means, Mercedes-Benz will now have to fit in a larger AdBlue exhaust tank to the suspended E350d, which will improve the fuel efficiency in return. However, the company has not revealed as to how many units have been affected by this.

Mercedes-Benz has not announced a time frame for the re-engineering as the company claims that it will take them a "few weeks" to make the changes to the car. Moreover, the issue is found only in the E350d's sold in Germany and this will not affect the luxury saloon on sale in India.
