It might be a huge step for Mitsubishi Motors Corporation as they are about to name their next President. From what we know, it will be Tetsuro Aikawa but it is only after getting the shareholder approval, that it will be made official and Aikawa will take over the reins of the company from June this year.
Aikawa has spent about 15 years in Mitsubishi and he comes from a lineage that has been part of the Japanese company for years. His father was president of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Aikawa has been part of the organization during its difficult times like in 2000 when Daimler took a controlling stake in Mitsubishi Motors, but the tie-up imploded in a clash of cultures. The Germans made for a quick exit in 2004 leaving a huge dent in the company's future.
Since then Mitsubishi has three core companies - Mitsubishi Corp, Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and Mitsubishi Heavy. With the entry of Aikawa, as President, the troubled automaker will get a much needed support and from what we can gauge get its much sought after independence as well. The outgoing president, Osamu Masuko, has worked hard to see that the company secures record profits and Aikawa will step into his shoes but it is his perspective that will make the difference for Mitsubishi Motors.
Aikawa has spent time in sales and manufacturing in Japan but his forte lies in product development. So, with him in the hot seat, we can expect Mitsubishi to invest heavily in developing a new product, fill in the R&D gaps and get cracking on future design and technology.
Soon all will be revealed and we will get you more details on this front. Stay tuned!
