- Hyundai will launch the new-gen Verna sedan in India in 2017
- The car will come with some major design and cosmetic changes
- We expect the powertrain options to remain unchanged
After the global unveil of the new-gen Hyundai Verna last month, the South Korean carmaker has now launched the car in the Chinese market. Slated for a 2017 launch in India, the new-generation Hyundai Verna comes with some major design and cosmetic changes along with a host of new features as well. In China, the base variant of the new Verna is priced at RMB 72,800 (INR 7.20 lakh), while the range-topping model tops out at RMB 105,800 (INR 10.45 lakh).
Hyundai first showcased the next-gen Verna sedan as a concept at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show early this year followed by the unveiling of the production version at the 2016 Chengdu Motor Show in China last month. The car shares some of its styling cues with the newly launched Hyundai Elantra sedan, giving the new Verna quite an upmarket look. As a part of Hyundai's new design language, the car comes with the new a new Cascading front grille, smooth character lines, sharp projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, and a muscular front bumper that houses a sleep central air dam and pentagonal LED fog lamps.

There are changes in the car's dimensions as well as the new Verna is now 5mm longer and 28mm wider than the outgoing model and also gets a 30mm longer wheelbase. The side profile of the sedan has been revised with sloping roof-line, blackened C-Pillar. The rear profile, on the other hand, gets sportier taillamps with LED elements and all-new integrated spoiler.
Inside, the new-gen Hyundai Verna now looks a lot more upmarket and the pictures suggest that the fit and finish has improved as well. Among feature offerings, the top-of-the-line model gets a new dashboard layout, premium quality seats, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an engine start/stop button. Other features include - new alloy wheels, door handles in chrome finish and tinted windows.

Under the hood, the Chinese-spec model comes with two petrol engine options - a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder motor and a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder unit. While the former churns out about 100bhp, the latter is good for 123bhp. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. The Indian version though is expected to continue with the same powertrain options - 1.4-litre petrol, 1.6-litre petrol, 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel and 1.6-litre CRDi diesel.
