Early this week we told you that Nissan Terrano will soon get with an AMT version in India. Confirming the reports, the Japanese carmaker today announced the start of pre-booking for the new Terrano 6 Speed Advanced Auto Drive for an initial token amount of Rs. 25,000. The new car will be based on the top-of-the-line XVD Premium variant and will be available for pre-booking in Nissan showrooms across India. Nissan hasn't revealed the actual price but it did mention that the new Terrano AMT will be priced in the range of Rs. 13.75 lakh to 13.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Sales of the new car will commence later this month.
Interestingly, just a few months back, Nissan’s French partner, Renault introduced an AMT version of the Duster facelift in India. The updated Renault Duster came with the carmaker’s new 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) unit called Easy-R. We drove the car early this year and are pretty sure the new Nissan Terrano will use the same Easy-R AMT unit only with the new ‘Advanced Auto Drive’ tag. The Terrano AMT will come mated to the same 108bhp, 1.5-litre diesel engine sourced from Renault.
We would also like to mention that the Renault offers the Easy-R gearbox in two variants of the Duster – the RXZ and RXL and both are almost Rs. 78,000 to Rs. 2.0 lakh cheaper than the price point at which Nissan intends to launch the Terrano AMT. Also, the Duster AMT is an updated model and comes with a host of new features as well. On the other hand, rival Hyundai Creta offers the automatic option in both petrol and diesel trims and uses a conventional torque converter rather than an AMT unit like the other two. While the Creta petrol automatic SX+ variant is priced at Rs. 12.93 lakh, the diesel automatic S+ and SX+ variants are priced at Rs. 13.63 lakh and Rs. 14.57 lakh respectively. Coming back to the Terrano AMT, along with the new gearbox, the new model also comes with several other small add-on features like - electrically folding exterior rear-view mirrors with integrated turn signals, anti-pinch driver side windows, a new driver armrest, soft-touch plastics on the dashboard, and door trim. Nissan has also included a new body colour, Sandstone Brown, which will be available across variants.
