Police Cars Used By Different Indian States

In terms of size and population, maintaining law and order is a huge task in India. The Indian police force needs a fairly extensive arsenal of resources to accomplish that. Crucial to that is transportation, especially patrol cars. Until two decades, the police force drove fairly outdated vehicles due to budgetary constraints. But of late, they have upgraded and car makers too have stepped in to help out the local law enforcement. Let's take a look at the Indian police cars that are a part of the force in different states.

The first on the list is Mahindra Bolero from Mahindra, a car maker based in India. Mahindra bolero is popular in the Police force of various states for its affordable price range and rugged nature. The Indian police car stunts in the South Indian movies may seem exaggerated, but there is a little bit of truth as the Bolero can withstand such harsh situations. The latest BS6 compliant Mahindra Bolero has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine providing 71.5 bhp power.
Mahindra TUV300

Used majorly in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police forces, Mahindra TUV300 is the next on the list. The subcompact SUV is more like a crossover making it a more functional option for the police force. The beast is powered by a punchy diesel engine and sustains some bad roads.
Maruti Suzuki Gypsy

Maruti is an irreplaceable member of our police force. It is the most recognised and also the favourite vehicle of our police force. You can guess by its look that the Gypsy is a badass made for bad roads. Hence, it is not a surprise that Gypsy is a favourite Indian police car. Its reliability and affordability make the Gypsy a loved one for the armed forces of Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra and Assam.
Maruti Ertiga

Next on the list is also a Maruti used widely by the cops of Chandigarh, Delhi, Bengaluru, Haryana and Maharashtra. In addition to being a spacious car, the fact that it is a Maruti car makes Ertiga one of the most preferred Indian police cars. In states like Chandigarh and Haryana, Ertiga is used as an interceptor and mini-PCR.
Toyota Innova

Toyota Innova is a long-standing part of the police forces. This potent MPV is used for the same job as the Maruti Ertiga but at the next level. Maruti Ertiga is used for patrolling within the city, while Innova is used for patrols on the highway. It is also the most preferred choice of Indian police car for interceptors and pursuits. Its ability to accommodate speed radars detectors at the back makes Innova a paramount choice for traffic police.
