Renault Duster Hybrid Launch Today: What To Expect?

- Gets a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery
- Claims a fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl
- Makes 158 bhp and 172 Nm
Renault is set to add a hybrid powertrain to the new Duster range in India today, October 17, 2026. Called the E-Tech 160, it will sit above the existing 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol options, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl and a combined range of up to 1,000 km.
Bookings for the Duster Hybrid first opened alongside the regular model’s launch in March 2026, but Renault later paused it after demand exceeded availability. The carmaker reopened bookings earlier this month, with a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Renault Duster Hybrid: Engine

The E-Tech 160 pairs a 1.8-litre GDI petrol engine with a 1.4 kWh battery pack and two electric motors. The hybrid system produces a combined 158 bhp and 172 Nm of torque, with power sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Renault claims a fuel efficiency figure of 29 kmpl, which it says is the highest in the segment. The carmaker also says the Duster Hybrid can run in all-electric mode for up to 80 per cent of typical city driving. This, according to Renault, can cut fuel consumption by as much as 40 per cent compared to a vehicle powered solely by an internal combustion engine.

How Does The Duster’s Hybrid System Work?
Apart from EV mode, the hybrid system uses a multimode gearbox with 15 operating modes to manage the petrol engine and electric motors. Renault describes four main driving modes. In Dynamic Hybrid mode, the petrol engine and electric motors work together to drive the wheels. Electric Motion mode uses the electric motor to move the car while the petrol engine charges the battery.
There is also an ICE mode, in which the petrol engine drives the wheels on its own. In Energy Recovery mode, the system recovers energy during deceleration to recharge the battery.
