Tata Bolt Hatchback's Price Might Undercut Maruti Swift

Buoyed by the overwhelming response for its sub-compact sedan, the Zest, in India, Tata Motors is now gearing up to launch the much-awaited Bolt hatchback here. To be launched on January 20th, the Bolt is the second all new car after Zest under the company's HORIZONEXT product strategy. The Bolt will replace the ageing Indica Vista in the country. Online bookings for the car have already begun at a token amount of Rs 11,000.
Just like the Zest undercut the price of Maruti Swift Dzire, the Bolt too will be priced below the Swift. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 4.20 lakh - Rs 6.50 lakh, the Bolt might become the most affordable preimum hatchback in India. However the Grand i10, that sits between the entry level B segment hatchbacks and premium hatchbacks in India, will be the closest price competitor for the Bolt in India.

Designed by Tata's three design studios - Pune (India), Turin (Italy) and Coventry (UK), the hatchback shares its design cues with its elder sibling Zest. Along with the design, both the cars also share platform and features.
Powering the petrol model of the Bolt will be the same Revotron, 1.2-litre turbocharged unit that also does duty on the Zest. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 89bhp and 140Nm of torque. The diesel model too will feature the same, 1.3-litre multijet, engine but will produce less power in comparison to the Zest. While in the Zest, it produces 89bhp; with Bolt it is claimed to return 74bhp. Transmitting power to the front wheels of the car is a five-speed manual gearbox.
