Tesla China Gigafactory Remains Shut Due to COVID-19 Restrictions

Tesla on Sunday reportedly asked its workers in China to stay home as it continued with the suspension of operations at its China factory. As per reports work at Tesla's factory in Eastern Shanghai continue to face COVID-related restrictions in movement prompting the carmaker to ask its employees to stay home. Chinese authorities put movement restrictions in place in Shanghai owing to a recent spurt in COVID cases.
The carmaker had previously shut operations on March 28 at its Shanghai factory with plans to resume operations in four days.
Tesla's China factory is said to roll out nearly 6,000 Model 3 sedans and 10,000 Model Y SUVs every week.

Tesla recently announced its results for the first quarter of 2022 reporting total deliveries of 3,10,048 vehicles – a 68 percent gain over the same period last year. The carmaker though reported a minor decline in vehicle production with total production numbers at 3,05,407 units – down 433 units.
In a recent tweet Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, “"This was an exceptionally difficult quarter due t0 supply chain interruptions and China zero Covid policy.”
Tesla recently also commenced operations at its new Gigafactory in Germany. The new facility has an annual production capacity of up to 5 lakh vehicles.
