Tesla Design Chief Reveals Roadster Will Be An Exciting Flying Machine

- The design guru revealed that the work was on the Roadster
- In September Musk had said the car had been delayed to 2023
- Many other electric hypercars in the ensuing time have stolen its thunder
Tesla's design chief Franz Von Holzhausen has been a Elon Musk's top lieutenants over the years and he has been instrumental in the development of almost all of Tesla's vehicles apart from the original Roadster. Now, he revealed in a podcast that his team has been working overtime to make sure that the new Roadster which was announced in 2017 finally comes out soon. He said his team was working feverishly on the electric hypercar which would be an "exciting flying machine".
This comes after Elon Musk revealed that Tesla didn't have the bandwidth to launch a new vehicle in 2022 and not only the Roadster had been put on the back burner but also the Cybertruck had been delayed to 2023. The Roadster had been delayed to 2023 and its launch more recently was more dependent on how Tesla navigated 2022.
The original Tesla Roadster was the first car the company sold
"We are working on the Roadster. I wish we were working faster, but I also wanted to say that, in the time we have been developing it, we have also been learning a lot. Plaid is a great learning platform. All those experiences will, you know, make their way back into a much better Roadster than had we launched right after we debuted it," said the Tesla design boss.
His reference to the Plaid models of the Model S and X was to the fact that his teams had learnt a great deal from its groundbreaking 2021 vehicles and all those learnings were being poured into the Roadster.
"So yeah, continuous improvements on that. It will be an amazing, exciting flying machine with the SpaceX package," he added.
