These Electric Vehicle Championships In India Need Your Support

EVs are the future of transportation but there is still a long way to go to achieve the kind of results that we are aiming for. When it comes to the efficiency of an electric vehicle, it is still considered to be lower than their fuel-based counterparts. EVs usually need to be charged for long hours and have lower speeds which makes the buyer uncomfortable to select an EV. There are also many gaps in terms of the infrastructure that we require to sustain electric vehicles. However, the environmental impact is more than enough to cover all the drawbacks.
Moreover, private and government organizations are encouraging the youth to come up with technology that can improve the current scenario with EVs. Over the past few years many electric vehicle championships have started taking place in India. Some of these are only for students and allow for new ways of thinking and developing electric vehicle technology so that it can be adopted easily. Here are a few of the top electric vehicle championships in India:

Electric Solar Vehicle Championship: ESVC 3000+ Rally by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Imperial Society of Innovation Engineering (ISIE)

This is a one of its kind event which was held in March 2021. The event was supported by NITI Aayog and is Asia's largest electric vehicle and solar vehicle development competition. Students from all over India were encouraged to build their own solar vehicles to participate in this huge rally/ championship to develop modern solutions to solve the problems with present EVs and solar vehicles. This rally was a way to encourage students to use and promote cleaner transportation and to search for technologies that can help us upgrade our current technology. Participants in the rally covered over 1600 km in eight days and travelled from Delhi to Pune.
REEVS by SAE Bengaluru in collaboration with auto giants like TVS, General Motors and Technical Centre India.

Although REEVS India is not an entirely solar and electric vehicle championship, it encourages students from all over India to come up with cleaner mobility solutions to solve the technological and environmental issue of the future. The competition is meant for engineering students of all fields to develop innovative technologies. REEVS focuses on standards like technology, safety, innovation, quality and sustainability. Their aim is to develop a disciplined environment where students can focus on creating fuel efficient urban vehicles for the future of automotive and our ecosystem.

Apart from events and electric vehicle championships in India, there are other organizations like Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) that conduct seminars, organise Expos and other events in for the EV industry. Today the need of the hour is to look into improving the electric vehicle infrastructure in India and to encourage the common people to make a change in their lifestyle. Electric vehicles have the power to lead us to a better and cleaner future, hence there is a need to support the events and organizations working to make this technology better for everyone.
