Volkswagen Polo GTI Teased Ahead Of Launch

- Volkswagen is set to launch the car in India around mid-November
- The Polo GTI will be the first 3-door hatch in its segment in India
- At 190bhp, the Polo GTI will be one of the most powerful hatch in India
Volkswagen recently released the first teaser of its soon-to-be-launched performance hatchback - the Polo GTI. The new teaser talks about the raw, untethered power offered by the new Polo GTI, which will make it one of the most powerful hatchbacks in the country. Volkswagen is set to launch the car in India in mid-November, and this new teaser substantiates its imminent arrival. Moreover, the company has also imported few units of the car for the launch event. The car will arrive in India via the CBU (completely built unit) route and thus will command a heavy price tag in the range of Rs. 18 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Volkswagen Polo GTI
The upcoming Volkswagen Polo GTI will be powered by a turbocharged 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine that churns out a maximum of 189bhp and develops a peak torque of 250Nm. The engine comes mated to Volkswagen's tried and tested 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox that helps the car to do a 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.7-seconds, before reaching to top-speed of 235km/h. We recently drove the car and enjoyed every bit as fun as advertised. And you can read more about it in our review.

While Volkswagen first showcased the car in India early this year at the 2016 Auto Expo, the automaker has been putting the car through its paces in India for quite some time now. In fact, a few months back even we spotted a test mule on the outskirts of Pune. In terms of looks, the car shares some of its design cues with its sibling the Polo GT with the addition of some sharp styling that includes - a bolder honeycomb grille and sportier bumpers with larger intakes. Although yet to be confirmed, the Polo GTI could also get LED headlamps. Other design elements that we like are the 17-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, red GTI insignia, and the GTI-specific rear spoiler.
Volkswagen will initially launch the Polo GTI only in its 3-door avatar, making it the first of its kind in the segment with a 5-door version expected to follow sometime next year depending on the response from the Indian car buying customers.
