Review: Mahindra e2o

The Mahindra Reva e2o is a sustainable and a fuel-efficient car that can easily do more than 100km in one charge. Spacious, comfortable and provided with features like a large integrated touchscreen interface and a monochrome digital speed information pod, and priced at an affordable Rs 5.96 lakh makes a good bargain.

Highlights

  • This is Mahindra's first all-electric car in India
  • The e2O is manufactured at the company's Bengaluru Facility
  • It can travel for 100km on a full charge

We saw the Mahindra NXR at the 2012 AutoExpo, and then Mahindra announced that they were going to introduce this all-electric car in India soon enough. The UV maker has shown that in today's date and time even though the infrastructure in India doesn't suit an electric car, there is no stopping them from building one and selling it across the country.

Electric cars are practical to use and extremely eco-friendly with zero carbon footprints, so Mahindra decided that its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bengaluru was the right place for a small car like the e2o.

Mahindra has worked upon the design provided to them by DC's NXR and have managed to iron it out into a production version. The fit and finish too is good and Mahindra deserves a pat on the back for it.

The Mahindra Reva e2o once charged can go upto 100km in one change. Powering the e2o is a 3 phase induction motor which churns out roughly 25bhp, so don't expect it to sizzle in the fast lane. It's a practical way to go around and there is enough and some more room at the rear too.

Inside awaits a large touchscreen interface that has been well integrated and the monochrome digital speed information pod is good enough to make it look like a vibrant and extremely futuristic car. The e2o takes off from the rest smoothly, and because of the small size is easy to move around.

It is silent and very comfortable and that what a city wants a car that does not pollute and which still behaves like a car. The e2o has been priced at Rs 5.96 lakh (on-road) after a subsidy from the state government to the tune of Rs 1.8 lakh but that still is on the expensive side. We hope to see this figure go down as more and more players attempt to penetrate the electric car market.
