Pros Cons of Tata Punch

Pros

  • The new 1.2-litre engine delivers brisk performance and a smooth power delivery.
  • For its size, the Punch soaks up rough roads, potholes, and broken surfaces quite well.
  • The compact dimensions, light controls, and SUV presence make it easy to drive in the city.
  • The refreshed interiors, extra features, and revised touchscreen improve the overall experience.
  • Tata Punch buyers will appreciate the reassuring five-star BNCAP rating.

Cons

  • The 1.2 turbo-petrol engine is not available with an automatic gearbox.
  • One will notice some vibrations seeping through the steering wheel and pedals.
  • The steering does not feel responsive and at times needs more driver input than expected.
  • The manual gearbox shifts through the gears with a slightly rubbery feel.
  • Tall people will find the headroom to be slightly restrictive.

Verdict

The new Tata Punch builds on the strengths that made it one of the most popular cars at its price point. Essentially, meaningful improvements in performance, technology, and cabin appeal went a long way to improve its appeal. Not to forget that the CNG version now also gets an AMT option.

Bilal Firfiray summed it up well in his review when he stated:

"So, the Tata Punch Facelift isn't exactly a reinvention. It is reinforcement is what I think because Tata has taken a car which has already worked so well and made it feel more usable and feel more modern, and it doesn't lose any of the things that made it successful in the first place."

If you need a compact SUV that is safe, easy to drive, comfortable on Indian roads, and now more enjoyable behind the wheel thanks to the turbo-petrol power, the Punch certainly needs your attention. However, if the convenience of an automatic transmission from the 1.2 turbo-petrol and high standards of fit and finish are high priorities, you may want to explore other cars with similar price tags.
