How Is Mercedes-AMG Faring in India?

Mercedes-AMG has been part of Mercedes-Benz India's performance portfolio for several years, but its range has now moved beyond traditional V8-powered cars. The current lineup shows that AMG is more focused on turbocharged smaller engines, mild-hybrid systems and plug-in hybrid technology alongside its V8 models.

The A 45 S is the entry point into the full AMG range. At the other end, models such as the G 63 and S 63 retain V8 power, while the C 63 S E Performance and E 53 Hybrid demonstrate how AMG is integrating electrification into its performance cars. Mercedes-Benz India also launched the E 53 Hybrid recently in two variants, making it the latest addition to the local AMG range.

Today, there are about 13 nameplates available in the Indian market from Mercedes-AMG.

Which Mercedes-AMG Car Do You Need?

Some of the cars focus on mild-hybrid efficiency, some focus on punchy performance, while a select few value interior practicality the most. You’ll need to pick one up according to your exact needs.

    Mercedes-AMG’s Available Powertrains & Performance

    The A 45 S and C 43 use turbocharged four-cylinder engines, while the CLE 53 and GLE 53 use six-cylinder petrol engines. Larger models such as the G 63, S 63 and GT 63 continue with 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engines.

The A 45 S uses an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in around 4.0 seconds.  The C 63 S E Performance takes a different approach. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine works with an electric motor to produce a combined 671 bhp and 1,019 Nm.

There’s also the new E 53 Hybrid, which combines a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with electric assistance. It can travel for up to 100 km on electric power, giving buyers a way to handle shorter urban trips without relying entirely on the petrol engine.

And at the top end, the S 63 E Performance is available with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor to produce up to 791 bhp and 1,430 Nm. It takes only 3.3 seconds to reach 100 kmph with this one.

The Tech Powering Mercedes-AMG Cars in India

The company uses electronically controlled suspension, rear-axle steering, adaptive all-wheel drive and selectable driving modes to alter the behaviour of their vehicles.

    AMG Performance 4MATIC+

The system in this car continuously distributes torque between the front and rear axles according to available grip and driving conditions. It allows high-output models to put their power down more effectively while retaining predictable handling.

    AMG RIDE CONTROL Suspension

Adaptive dampers change their characteristics according to the selected driving mode and road conditions. In Comfort mode, the setup can be relatively compliant, while Sport and Sport+ modes increase body control for faster driving.

    E PERFORMANCE Technology

AMG's E Performance system combines a combustion engine with a dedicated electric motor and high-performance battery. Unlike a conventional hybrid designed primarily for efficiency, this system offers additional acceleration and more immediate response.

Should One Choose a Mercedes-AMG Car in India?

If your needs fall among the listed requirements, then you can definitely get one.

    • Wide performance range: There are many options between compact cars, sedans, SUVs, coupés and roadsters.
    • Strong engine choices: AMG still offers four-cylinder, six-cylinder and V8 powertrains in India.
    • Electrified performance: The plug-in hybrid models offer electric assistance with petrol engines.
    • Everyday usability: Several AMG models keep their comfortable cabins and practical seating despite their performance focus.

    The Honest Mercedes-AMG Ownership Experience

All Mercedes-AMG cars are supported through the wider Mercedes-Benz India dealership and service network.

    Maintenance and Running Costs

Servicing a Mercedes-AMG is more expensive than a usual Mercedes-Benz model. Tyres, brake components and mechanical parts: all of these are relatively more expensive.

    Available Service Centres

Buyers can use select outlets for vehicle sales, scheduled maintenance, diagnostics and repairs. The company's online tools also allow customers to locate dealerships, book test drives and arrange service appointments.

Charging Requirements for E PERFORMANCE Models

Plug-in hybrid AMG models such as the C 63 S E Performance, E 53 Hybrid and S 63 E Performance combine an internal-combustion engine with a high-voltage battery and electric motor. Buyers considering these models should have convenient access to home charging.

What to Know Before Buying a Mercedes-AMG Car

Keep in mind some essential things before bringing a Mercedes-AMG into your garage.

    • High running costs: The performance components of these cars are expensive to replace.
    • Firm ride on performance models: Sportier suspension settings can feel stiff on urban roads.
    • Large dimensions: AMG SUVs and sedans can be difficult to manoeuvre in tight city streets.
    • Check the exact variant: Equipment, power and performance can be vastly different between AMG variants.
