Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a new entry variant to its all-electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe range, the AMG GT 53. On the styling front, the GT 53 gets a more toned-down look compared to its more powerful sibling. The lightbar is replaced by a body coloured strip with a slim vent positioned at the base of the bonnet. The grille lacks the illuminated elements of its larger sibling, while the bumper design too has been revised with less aggressive aero elements. The rear bumper too gets a slightly less aggressive design, though the full-width black panel at the rear housing the taillights and rear lightbar is unchanged.

Inside, the cabin is much the same as the GT 55 and GT 63 with a tri-screen layout on the dashboard fascia featuring a digital instrument cluster, 14-inch central touchscreen and a front passenger display. The touchscreen is angled towards the driver to give the car a driver-focused feel. Other features on offer include a panoramic glass roof, multi-zone climate control, adaptive air suspension and more. Like its more expensive siblings, the GT 53 can also pipe engine noise into the cabin, though the V8 notes are replaced by those of an AMG in-line six-cylinder.

The big changes to the 53, however, come with the powertrain. The new dual motor layout develops a peak 536 bhp and 800 Nm - down from the GT 55’s 800bhp and 1800Nm. Mercedes claims a 0-100 kmph time of 3.9 seconds while top speed is limited to 250 kmph. The powertrain is paired with the 106 kWh battery, giving the car a WLTP claimed range of up to 809 km - up from 700 km. As with its more powerful siblings, the GT 53 features the 800V architecture, offering peak charging rates of up to 600 kW DC charging, with a 10 to 80 per cent charge taking just 11 minutes.
