10 Best-Selling Cars in India in December 2015

One cannot deny that fact that the Indian automotive industry saw the best and the worst in 2015. Last year we saw one of the largest number of car launches along with some very exciting new models enter the Indian car market. While on one side new models like Renault Kwid, Ford Figo Aspire and Hyundai Creta drastically boost sales for their respective car manufacturers, on the other we saw the Chennai Floods largely affect the production of cars in India. Despite of all that the leading passenger carmakers still seems to be banking big on sales, and as a testament to that here are the 10 best-selling cars in December 2015.

As last month, the time before that, and the same time last year, the Maruti Suzuki Alto remains the undisputed leader of best-selling cars in India in December 2015 as well. The Indo-Japanese carmaker sold a total of 22,589 units of the Alto last month, compared to 22,296 units in December 2014, seeing a growth of 1.3 per cent. Interestingly this time Maruti's tall-boy, WagonR is also seeing some increased demands in the market as the car's sales went up 8.1 per cent with 14,645 units. With this, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR has also gone up the ladder to the second spot surpassing the Swift twins.

Despite of being on the third position, Maruti Suzuki Swift's sales have gone down by over 16 per cent with total units sold in December 2015 accounted at 14,548. The same time last year, Maruti sold 17,410 units of the Swift hatchback. Same is the case with its compact sedan twin, Swift Dzire, which saw total sales of 13,176 units last month, compared to 15,526 units the same time in 2014.

As always, the Hyundai Grand i10 continues to hold a spot in the top 5 best-selling cars list and took the fifth position in December 2015. The Korean carmaker saw a staggering growth of 55.2 per cent with 12,749 units compared to 8,210 units from last year in December 2014. On the other hand, the sixth spot has been taken by Maruti Suzuki's newest product in the market, the Baleno premium hatchback. Maruti has sold a total of 10,379 units of the Baleno in December 2015, surpassing the previous leader Hyundai Elite i20, who is not on the seventh spot. As for the Elite i20, Hyundai India sold a total of 10,379 units, which even brought it down a level, still saw a growth of 11 per cent compared to 9,345 units sold in December 2014.

The eighth, ninth and tenth spot are taken by Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Mahindra Bolero and the all new Renault Kwid. While the Celerio continues to be at its usual position with 8,091 units, it is the sales of the Mahindra Bolero that has drastically gone down by 26.8 per cent with 7,133 units as compared to 9,748 units the same time last year. The newest addition to this top 10 list though is the popular small car Renault Kwid that saw an impressive sales figure of 6,888 units.
