For a first-time offender, the penalty for rash driving is imprisonment of six months to one year or a fine of Rs. 1,000-5,000. Such heavy fines make people think twice before resorting to rash driving.

Drunk Driving
Drunken driving is unsafe for the driver and the other vehicles and pedestrians on the route. Many statistics claim that drunk driving is one of the primary causes of road accidents.
Thanks to the heavy fine of Rs. 10,000 or imprisonment time of up to six months, the problem of drunk driving seems to be under control. If you are caught drunk driving for the second time, you'll risk imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of Rs.15,000.
Over Speeding
Over speeding is one of the most common activities on the Indian streets. These days, you'll spot many speed testing cameras on roads to spot over speeding motorists. A light motor vehicle driver has to pay Rs. 1,000 - 2,000 if caught over speeding. The fine is Rs. 2,000 - 4,0000 for drivers of medium passenger or goods vehicles.

Cutting Lane/Driving on the Wrong Side
Let's face it, at least one time, we all have switched lanes or drove on the wrong side to reach our destination in time. But do you know doing this could result in imprisonment or paying a heavy penalty? You have to serve three months of prison time or pay Rs. 500 to 1,000 if caught on the wrong lane!
Not Providing Way for Emergency Vehicles
Do you know that you can be charged a fine of Rs.10,000 or risk imprisonment of six months if you deny way for emergency vehicles? Emergency vehicles include ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, and similar vehicles. You must make way for these vehicles not only for fear of fines but also on a humanitarian basis.
