Aston Martin Confirms an Upcoming 5.2-Litre V12 Engine
There are certain names across various categories that always make you sit up and pay more attention than you do usually. Some of them that work for me are: Monica Bellucci, Aston Martin, Valentino Rossi, Quentin Tarantino, Himalayas, Jamie Oliver - in that order.
So when I read 'Aston Martin and V12' together somewhere a few minutes ago, I couldn't help but press Ctrl+T to open a few tabs simultaneously and find out what it was all about. So, Aston Martin has released a video, which is nothing less than a confirmation, of the sound its upcoming engine which is a 5.2-litre, twin-turbo, V12 producing over 600bhp. Unless the speaker of my laptop has lied to me, it sounds wonderful.
This also means the end of the era of naturally-aspirated engines for Aston Martin. This engine will power the new 2016 Aston Martin DB11, and will help them to cut emissions without compromising on the power. This move has put them in the list of the manufacturers, which includes Porsche and Ferrari, who have downsized their engines, and moved to forced induction.
This new engine will be officially unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, which will be held in March. It is expected to be the most powerful V12 engine ever built by Aston Martin. The engine will be developed entirely in-house by Aston Martin, despite having a partnership with AMG. Under this new collaboration, Aston Martin and AMG will work together to develop a new 4-litre V8 engine. This new engine is also expected to be made available as an option in the DB11.
Will the winds of change favour the brand James Bond swears by? Well, that's something only future can and will tell.
