Audi A3 Sedan - Everything You Want to Know

There is no denying that the Audi A3 sedan is one of the most awaited vehicles of the year, and rightly so. Case in point, Audi's cheapest ever offering in India aka the A3 sedan, expected to be launched with a starting price of Rs 22-23 lakh (ex-showroom). The car's launch will also open up the luxury compact sedan segment in India, which will be joined by the Mercedes CLA later this year.
Engine and Transmission Options
The Audi A3 sedan will be offered with both, diesel and petrol engine options in India. Globally, the car's diesel model features a 2.0-litre TDI engine, capable of producing 150bhp and 320Nm. While the base petrol model sports a 140bhp 1.4-litre TFSI engine, the other petrol mill, i.e the 1.8-litre TFSI, is more powerful and puts out 180bhp. However, the company might not launch the 1.8-litre petrol engined trim in India since it will raise the car's cost, a defiance of the idea behind the sedan.
It will be offered with two transmission options, namely, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox.
Dimensions
The A3 sedan measures 4460mm in length, 1800mm in width and 2640mm in wheelbase, thus becoming the smallest luxury sedan in India. And yet, it will be spacious enough to accommodate five passengers comfortably. Also, the car offers 425-litres worth of boot space.
Price
Audi India will bring the A3 via the CKD (Completely Knocked-down Unit) route, and assemble it at its Aurangabad facility in order to price the car rather competitively. We expect the entry-level variant of the compact sedan to be priced around Rs 22-23 lakh, while the top-end variant could around Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mileage
The diesel engined Audi A3 is expected to return 25Km/l, while the petrol unit is likely to give 20Km/l.
Launch Date
With the media drives for the A3 sedan set to begin from July 9, 2014, expect the car to arrive in showrooms by mid-July.
