Chevrolet Debuts Essentia Sub-Compact Sedan and Activ Crossover

The car maker already has a sub compact sedan in its portfolio, however it hasn't been able to lure customers to showrooms, hence to carve a niche for itself in the exponentially growing segment, Chevrolet is planning to bring in the all new Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan.

Chevrolet Beat Essentia Sub-Compact Sedan
Based on the current generation Beat hatchback, Essentia shares styling cues with the former and is also expected to feature the same set of engines that currently power Beat hatchback. That said, Essentia line-up is likely to be offered with a choice of two engines including a 1.2 litre STEC II petrol motor engendering 77bhp along with 107Nm. Diesel variants will house a 1.0 litre XSDE powerplant developing 56bhp of power along with 142.5Nm torque. The entry level compact sedan is expected to be priced aggressively and will face competition from rivals like Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent and upcoming Tata Kite.

The other new model displayed at the Expo from Chevrolet is the Beat based crossover dubbed Activ. Chevrolet will position this as an entry level hatchback based crossover which unlike rivals will be priced competitively. Styling cues like the split grille up front, large swept back head lamps will be seen in both the cars. The hatchback base crossover segment in India currently offers premium options such as Hyundai i20 Active, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Avventura. Chevrolet is expected to bring Activ Cross in India sometime next year.
