Auto Sales June 2022: Passenger Vehicle Sales Records Growth Of 19.06 Per Cent

The Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released the sales report for June 2022 and the passenger vehicle segment has recorded a growth of 19.06 per cent selling 2,75,788 units last month as compared to 2,31,633 units sold in the corresponding month a year ago. The passenger cars segment witnessed a growth of 9.03 per cent selling 1,32,342 units as compared to 1,21,378 units sold a year ago. Sales of SUVs went up by 32.07 per cent selling 1,33,076 units as against 1,00,760 units sold in the same month a year ago. In the same period, sales of Vans witnessed an uptick of 9.21 per cent selling 10,370 units as compared to 9,495 units sold a year ago.
Three-wheeler sales in June 2022 grew exponentially by 183.93 per cent.
Commenting on Q1 performance, Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said, "In Quarter-1 this year, sales in the Passenger vehicle segment stood at - 9.1 lakh units, in Two wheeler segment - 37.25 lakh units, in Three-wheeler segment - 76 thousand units and in Commercial vehicle segment - 2.25 lakh units. Recently the government has taken significant measures to ease the inflationary pressure and help the common man by reducing central excise duty on petrol & diesel and changing the duty structure to moderate prices of steel & plastic. Indian Automobile Industry appreciates and thanks the government for these efforts. Industry also keenly looks forward to similar support on CNG prices which has seen exponential increase in the last 7 months. Support on CNG prices would help the common man, facilitate public transport and will enable a cleaner environment."
Two-wheeler sales in the same month went up by 23.40 per cent.
Two-wheeler sales in the same month went up by 23.40 per cent selling 13,08,764 units as compared to 10,60,565 units sold a year ago. Three-wheeler sales (including electric three-wheelers) in the same period grew exponentially by 183.93 per cent selling 26,701 units as compared to 9,404 units sold in the same month last year. Moreover, 47 units of quadricycles were sold in June this year. Overall, the auto industry recorded a growth of 23.79 per cent at 16,11,300 units as compared to 13,01,602 units sold in the same month last year.
