Best Sedan Cars In India Under Rs. 15 Lakh
Key Highlights
  • The Indian sedan market is flooded with a plethora of choices
  • The Nissan Sunny is the most affordable car in the list
  • The Toyota Yaris is the latest entrant in this segment

India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world. There are multiple options available to buyers in every segment of passenger cars. Especially in the sedan cars segment, which are priced under Rs. 15 lakh. Our industry offers wide scope for competition in practically every segment imaginable. From entry level hatchbacks to SUVs and luxury cars, the rivalry is intense as carmakers continually strive to capture and increase their respective market share with a variety of models. However, the plethora of choices can understably cause confusion among buyers. We help you guide through the plenty of options that are available in the market.

Here is our list of the Best Sedan Cars under 15 lakh

1. Toyota Yaris

2018 toyota yaris review

(The first impression of the Toyota Yaris is that it's a baby Corolla)

The Yaris is Toyota's first attempt at entering the highly contested compact sedan category in India and contends with seasoned players like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento. The prices for the Yaris range from Rs 8.75-12.85 lakh (ex-showroom India) for the petrol manual variants and from Rs 9.95-14.07 lakh (ex-showroom India) for the petrol automatics.

In terms of equipment, the top of the line Toyota Yaris offers leather interiors, a touchscreen infotainment system and cruise control. It also offers roof mounted AC vents - a first in class and very useful feature along with inbuilt ambient lighting. The Toyota Yaris also offers features like a start-stop button, automatic climate control but misses out of features like Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

While all its competitors get a diesel motor, the Yaris is only offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 108 bhp of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. That said, you do get the option of choosing a manual 6-speed gearbox or the Toyota Yaris automatic with a CVT option. The top of the line CVT also gets paddle shifters.

Specifications Toyota Yaris
Engine 1496 cc
Max Power 106 bhp at 6,000 rpm
Peak Torque 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm
Transmission 6-speed MT
Price Starts at Rs. 11.17 lakh

2. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Among the best-selling sedans in India, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was recently moved to the company's premium retail network - Nexa. The popular Maruti Suzuki sedan, now no longer retailed through standard Maruti Suzuki dealerships, is offered with a choice of two engine options: a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diese engine. With Maruti Suzuki Ciaz's prices starting at Rs. 8.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Sigma Petrol variant, the car-line comes amply loaded with provisions for entertainment, comfort, convenience, and safety including touchscreen SmartPlay system, navigation system, and reverse parking sensor and camera, depending on the selected variant. However, dual airbags and ABS with EBD are offered as standard provisions across the entire range.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Price (ex-showroom Delhi): Rs. 8.2 lakh - Rs. 11.38 lakh

Specifications Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Petrol
Engine 1462 cc

3. Honda City

2017 honda city facelift

Considering the cut throat competition in the segment, Honda brought in the facelifted model of the City sedan earlier this year in February. Loaded with a myriad of cosmetic upgrades and new features, the 2017 Honda City clocked more than 14,000 orders in just one month. Other than extensive revisions to its exterior, the latest iteration of Honda's best-selling car now gets a 7-inch advanced infotainment with capacitive touchscreen, satellite-linked turn-by-turn navigation, Mirrorlink support, voice recognition, automatic climate control, multi-view rear camera, and cruise control among a plethora of other features. For safety, the Honda City's list of standard provisions includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX mounts for rear child seats. The new Honda City comes powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel.

Honda City Price (ex-showroom Delhi): Rs. 10.03 lakh - Rs. 14.4 lakh

Engine 1497 cc
Max Power 117 bhp at 6,600 prm

4. Hyundai Verna

(New Hyundai Verna)

The Hyundai Verna takes its design inspiration from its elder sibling, the Elantra and gets a long list of features and equipment update. As is evident, the biggest change is the front end, which now gets a single-piece hexagonal grille along with newly designed headlamps that have projector headlamps within. The new-generation Hyundai Verna is built on a new 'K2' platform which also makes use of the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. While the earlier Verna also came with 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines, Hyundai has decided to discontinue these in the new-gen Verna. It will only have the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 1.6-litre petrol engine makes 121 bhp and 151 Nm of peak torque while the diesel engine churns our 126 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are offered with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic torque converter unit.

Hyundai Verna Price (ex-showroom Delhi): Rs. 8.09 lakh - Rs. 14.05 lakh

Transmission 6-speed MT
Price Starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh

5. Nissan Sunny

2017 nissan sunny

The Nissan Sunny received a price cut of up to Rs. 1.9 lakh, making it the most affordable car among its peers. The 2017 Sunny is offered with option of an all-black interior with premium black fabric seats, new black interior panels and also receives equipment such as intelligent key, automatic air conditioning, rear parking sensor and camera, and push button start. For safety, in addition to driver side airbags and ABS with EBD, the Nissan Sunny also gets brake assist as standard across the entire range.
