Chennai Rains: Apollo Tyres Oragadam Plant Resumes Production

When Apollo Tyres announced the suspension of operation in Chennai, it said, "The production was disrupted in three shifts till December 2, 2015. The production loss due to this natural calamity is 450 MT (approximately)." The statement also added that natural calamity is adequately covered under the insurance policy of the company.
After resuming its operations, the company said in a BSE filing that, "The Company has started its production operations. We have made sure that the excess water gets drained into rainwater harvesting system. Storm water drains are clog free. Our employees are safe and secure." The statement also said that the company found that none of the equipment was damaged in the flood.

Although the statement did add that, "The Company only had production loss/consequential loss of profit which is not significant. So far, we have lost 10 shifts production (1,500 MT approximately)." The firm would be able to assess the insurance loss in due course, once full normalcy is restored, it added.

Along with Apollo Tyres some of the major carmakers like - Hyundai India, Ford India and Renault India too had suspended their operations at their Chennai plant. Now, while there is no official confirmation yet, it is quite possible that the aforementioned carmaker might also resume their operation in Chennai pretty soon. This is simply considering that fact that all three facility are located in nearby areas.
