Here mentioned are some of the best scenic lakes you can be traveling to in and around Mumbai. While some of these names might be familiar to you, you will surely find a few that you are hearing for the first time.
Tulsi Lake
Located on Salsette Island, near the northern side of Mumbai, the freshwater Tulsi Lake is quite a sight to see. It is situated within the perimeters of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which is more recently known as Borivali National Park. Here you can be one with the soothing vibes of nature, and if you are lucky, you can also spot numerous migratory birds and even some crocodiles in the area.

Vihar Lake:
If you are someone looking to spend some time away from the commotion in the city, this freshwater lake is the perfect place to be. The Vihar Lake is also located right in the middle of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and is known to be one of the largest lakes in the city. This is, however, a manmade lake constructed sometime around the 1860s. A walk by this lake, enjoying the beautiful scenery, is the perfect way to start your day.
Masunda Lake
Another popular Lake destination to be at in the city has to be Masunda Lake. Although it is known for the 20 feet high Human statue situated here, it also has other activities like boating and a water scooter you can enjoy. You can also get closer to the statue with a paddle boat if you are interested in pictures. However, if you are looking for a relaxing time, you can surely enjoy the entertainment facility called Gadkari Rangayatan at the lake.
Powai Lake:
A very well-known attraction in the northern suburbs of Mumbai, Powai, this lake is located very close to the IIT Mumbai campus. This, too, is an artificial lake constructed around 1890 and named after the Framaji Kavasji Powai Estate. This is perfect for a weekend and to go out on a picnic with your family. If you are in the area, make sure you visit during the monsoon.

Modak Sagar Lake:
A part of the dam along the Vaitarna River, this lake is surely the place to be when in Mumbai. The dam, constructed sometime during the 1900s, helps divide the river into three parts, the Modak Sagar being the lowest one. While this quaint lagoon is quite a sight to see and attracts several tourists here, make sure you do not step in the shallow waters as they are populated with crocodiles.
Upvan lake:
Also called the Pokhran lake, this is one of the places you should absolutely visit if you are looking for the calming presence of nature with your loved ones. If you visit during the morning, you will also see people exercising and meditating near the lakefront. The peace and chirping of birds here make this the perfect spot to be away from the stressors of the city.
Tansa Lake:
Another very nice and relaxing tourist spot in the city has to be tansa lake. This lake encompasses the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary and has a variety of flora and fauna. If you are a nature lover, you must visit this place with your camera. You will surely get some of the best photographs here, if anywhere in Mumbai.
Upper Vaitarna Lake
A rather good-looking water body, the Upper Vaitarna Lake is at a distance of a short road trip from the city. The scenery here is simply breathtaking, with fantastic views of the Western Ghats on one site. To be precise, this lake is located near Igatpuri and is surrounded by waterfalls and greenery, making it a perfect getaway for city dwellers.

Bhatsa Lake:
This is also a manmade lake fed by both the Bhatsa and Corna Rivers. This lake lies beneath the Bhatsa dam, which was constructed around 1981 and is busy all around the year. If you plan to take a trip to Sajivali during the monsoon, this is one place you should not miss. In addition to the beautiful sights of the scenery and the dam, this place is quite close to the main city, making it a perfect weekend plan.
